Maritime Dutch Connection Soccer Team participated in a big way, and even played an extra game to accommodate the playing schedule, due to the fact that the French Team from Moncton, NB had to pull out at the last minute, due to a lack of enough players for the tournament.
And allthough the Dutch Connection Soccer Team came up with enough players every game, we too seem to be short at times. One reason being, that many of our regular Dutch Connection Soccer Team players had been injured, during regular season games in their home towns. And at our games this past weekend, we lost two more players due to (hopefully) temporary injuries.
The tournament went off well. Some big upsets for sure. The Greek's Team ( a favorite for sure and bound for the finals) never made it in the end. Nor did the favorite each tournament ( and winner of earlier tournaments) Croatie. Greece could not hold on and Africa beat them 0-4 and went on to the finals. Croatie, alltough just losing by one goal, did not maker it either, and Scotland made it to the finals by beating them 2-3.
The final score for the Dutch was as follows: 9 am game Holland-England 2-0; 11 am game Croatia-Holland-5-0; 2 pm game Africa-Holland 2-0. Next day 9 am Greece-Holland 3-4; 2 pm Holland-Canada 1-7. As you can tell, by the end of the tournament, we were out of steam and substitute players. The last two games did not really matter anyway, as only the first 2 teams in each division goes on, trying to capture the Chrystal Glass Soccer Ball Trophy of this tournament. It was not a match up of teams at the Moncton Dundee Sports Dome Jan 23 and 24, 2010, as far as age is concerned, but the Dutch Connection Indoor Soccer Team sure got their work out, which is exactly what we were looking for, in anticipation of the World Cup Indoor Soccer Tournament this coming march.
