Welcome aboard New Dutch Honorary Consul for Nova Scotia and New Foundland & Labrador.
Mr. Guido Kerpel from Halifax is officially named Honorary Consul of the Netherlands for the Province of Nova Scotia. The 'Netherlands in Canada' team welcomes Mr. Kerpel to their group. Today, the official needed documents were signed at the Embassy in Ottawa in the presence of Ambassador Wim Geerts. Mr. Kerpel will continue the good work of his predecessor the Hon. Peter McGreath.
Mr Guido Kerpel was installed as the new Honorary Dutch Consul of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for Nova Scotia and Newfoundland & Labrador July 11, 2011 during a reception at the Westin Hotel in Halifax, NS. At the same time, good bye's were said to Mr Peter McCreath and his lovely wife Judy. Peter had filled this post for a long time, and knew many a Dutchman thruout the Atlantic Region. Dutch Ambassador Wim Geerts was the guest speaker, followed by other dignataries including dutch born MP Peter Stoffer. Other consuls from various countries such as the Belgian and Spanish Consul located in the Halifax region were present, as were about a hundred former dutch immigrants.

Dutch Passport Pilot Project a huge success in Halifax, NS and Fredericton, NB. On monday november 14 and tuesday november 15, Paula Martin of the Dutch Embassy in Ottawa travelled to Halifax, NS where she met with Dutch people from Nova Scotia and PEI at the office of the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Guido Kerpel, to accept applications to renew their passports, and take their finger prints for the new improved biometric Dutch Passports. On wednesday november 16 and thurday november 17, Paula Martin came to Fredericton for the same reason, and used the offices of the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Matthew Tweedie. In all, over 90 Dutch passport applications were accepted, and Paula ended up working overtime due to the great response she had.
This mobile biometric pilot project was a success, but is not a given. They did exactly what they set out to do, a pilot project. In order for this service to continue, you need to let the Dutch Embassy in Ottawa know, that we like to see this service on an annual basis, as many people of Dutch descent who own a Dutch Passport live in the Maritimes. I therefore suggest strongly, that you write to Paula Martin in Ottawa at ott-ca@minbuza.nl , and let your desires be known.
